Scaling Up Group Dental Symposium 2016 – Recap

The conference was hosted by Mortenson Dental Partners at the Seelback Hilton in Louisville, KY

Held November 9-11, the Scaling Up Group Dental Symposium once again brought together hundreds from the DSO space in an effort to positively impact the dental industry. Started in 2015, Scaling Up was designed to foster communication between dental professionals about the benefits of group dentistry, as well as offering an opportunity to learn from existing large groups.

Mortenson Dental Partners, based in Louisville, KY and operating 115 dental offices across the country, is known for willingly sharing best practices and acquired knowledge. Scaling Up has become a great vehicle to not only share information, but also learn from other DSOs as well.

Dr. Will Engilman leads the Centralization Panel featuring: Brandon Halcott, Dr. John Gulon, Neal Crowley, Steve James and Jane Logsdon

As the dental industry continues to shift from single practitioners with one or two offices, to group dentistry, there are many changes and obstacles for practices to work through. For example, how do you build a culture as your organization grows? How do you assign a value to your business beyond income? How do you effectively manage change in your organization? What technology can support your growth? What marketing principals will lead to sustainable growth and treatment acceptance?

All of these questions, and many more, were covered at the 2016 event. Speakers from a variety of backgrounds and industries presented on their expertise. An out-of-industry perspective was presented by Ryan Jordan, General Manager of Churchill Downs Racetrack. While horseracing and dentistry don’t seem to have many commonalities on the surface, as we learned from Ryan, experience is a critical component of both industries.

The ability to ask questions and have meaningful Q and A time is what the attendees have said they love the most about Scaling Up. The speakers are engaging and informative, and the environment is just right for learning and networking.

Scaling Up will be held again next year on November 9th-10th, 2017  in Louisville, KY. Registration will open spring 2017. For more information, visit ScalingUpGroupDental.com.
