Dentist practice ownership continues to decline, from 84.7% in 2005 to 73% in 2021, according to the latest data from the ADA Health Policy Institute. While solo practices continue to decrease, groups and dental support organizations continue to increase. According to the ADA, this accelerating shift on practice modality can be attributed to at least three factors:
- big exodus of the baby boomer dentist population,
- surge of younger dentists in the workforce, and
- COVID-19 pandemic.
With consolidation still strong, here is October’s list:
Independence Dental Services Organization Partners with Redmond Dental Group
Independence Dental Services, an Emerging Group to Watch in 2021, was established in 2020 at the onset of the pandemic with eight locations in Texas, Missouri, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. The emerging DSO is currently partnered with 43 dental centers and is headquarted in Dallas, Texas. Redmond Dental Group was founded by Dr. Max Higbee more than 30 years ago in Redmond, OR. Independence is led by Lane Theriault, CEO and David Thoni, CGO.
US Endo Partners Announces Expansion to Multi-specialty Integrated Oral Healthcare with New Company
US Endo Partners (US Endo) announced its expansion into multi-specialty, integrated oral healthcare with the addition of a sister company, Specialized Dental Partners (SDP). Doctor-led, doctor-driven US Endo has grown rapidly since its inception in 2018 by partnering with endodontists across the country. SDP will complement the specialty DSO by offering a partner for endodontists who wish offer fully collaborative practices, under one roof and alongside periodontists and oral and maxillofacial surgeons, to streamline services. Cameo Dental Specialists (Cameo), a five-location multi-specialty practice in Chicago, was the first to join forces with US Endo to create SDP. US Endo Partners and Specialized Dental Partners are both subsidiaries of Specialized Dental, LLC. Founded in 2018, US Endo currently provides support to more than 250 endodontists in 33 states. Scotte Hudsmith is CEO for both US Endo and SDP.
Emerging Groups to Watch in 2022 winner adds five practices in NY and NJ
The Smilist Management, Inc., led by Patricia Mahony, CEO, supports over 45 offices with over 900 employees. The emerging group recently announced the addition of five dental practices within New York and New Jersey:
- Dental Associates of Richmond in Staten Island, NY
- Malo Smile USA in Elizabeth, NJ
- Rothstein Dentistry in New City, NY
- Washington Township Dental in Sewell, NJ
- Williamsbridge Dental in The Bronx, NY
Florida Dental Centers affiliates with Dental Care Alliance
Under the leadership of Dr. Keith Hutchinson, Florida Dental Centers, has five clinic locations in the Tampa Bay area. It was founded over 40 years ago. Dental Care Alliance has more than 390 locations in 22 states and has been supporting dental professionals for over 30 years. TUSK Partners advised Florida Dental Centers in its affiliation with Dental Care Alliance.
Two Texas practices affiliate with Dental Care Alliance
Dr. Blake Foust and his two practices, Alsbury Dental and Lifeway Dental, partnered with Dental Care Alliance. Dr. Foust was represented by Xite Healthcare Real Estate & Practice Sales. The transaction was closed on October 31st, 2022.
SkyKnight Capital Invests alongside Dentist Partners, Management, and Talisker in Pearl Street Dental Partners
Pearl Street’s Co-Founders, David Meece and Dr. Robby Jennings, dentist shareholders, and the Company’s existing investor, Talisker Partners will remain significant shareholders alongside SkyKnight. Pearl Street’s management team will continue to lead the Company as it embarks on its next phase of growth. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Pearl Street is a partnership-oriented dental practice management company. Pearl Street has 32 partner practices and over 350 employees in Texas and Oklahoma. Rochester Dental Center was founded in 2000 by David Barts, DDS, and later acquired by his daughter, Caitlin Rich, DDS. For more than 20 years, Rochester Dental Center has provided area residents with multi-specialty dental care. Great Lakes Dental Partners provides practice management services to 35+ partner locations.
Dental Associates: Announces Bayshore clinic
Dental Associates, Wisconsin’s largest family-owned dental group practice with 14 clinics throughout the state, plans to open a new clinic at Bayshore mall at 5780 N. Port Washington Rd. in late summer 2023. The Glendale location will be the company’s first on the North Shore, seventh in the Milwaukee area and fifteenth in the state. Dr. Tom Manos is the owner and CEO of Dental Associates which is headquartered in Milwaukee, WI.

Rave Orthodontics has three physical locations in Central Point, Medford, and Ashland. Founded in 2019, SALT Dental Collective is a dental partnership organization for dental specialists. dntl bar Expands Operations, Accelerates Mission to Transform NYC Dental Care
dntl bar, the rapidly expanding DSO, announced its continued expansion with the launch of its new Upper West Side dental office and the relaunch of its Wall Street practice. Kansas group acquires Lafayette dental clinic
Aria Care Partners, which provides dental, vision and hearing services to seniors, has acquired Mission Dental, 510 Guilbeau Road, which specializes in mobile care in nursing facilities. Aria is led by CEO John Griscavage and is headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas.
Pacific Dental Services Reaches 900 Supported Practices Milestone
PDS has announced the grand opening of its 900th supported practice, marking yet another significant milestone in the dental support organization’s 28-year history. The newly opened supported practice, Aspen Hill Modern Dentistry is located in Silver Spring, Md. Aspen Hill Modern Dentistry is led by dentist Bobby Mann, DDS. Stephen E. Thorne IV is the founder and CEO of PDS.
Totally Smiles and About Smiles merge to form Impression Dental Group
Totally Smiles, with the backing of healthcare specialist investor Genesis Capital, has continued to grow across NSW, QLD, ACT and Victoria. Its expansion has included the re-launch of mobile dental unit Bounce Dentistry and the addition of leading regional NSW clinic Sale Street Dental in Orange. This merger of Totally Smiles with About Smiles begins the next chapter for the Australian group, alongside a number of senior appointments to key positions within Impression Dental Group. About Smiles’ founder and industry leader for over three decades Dr Chris Ho has joined the board of the group and stepped into the role of Chief Dental Officer.
Great Expressions Dental Centers Affiliates with Ascent Dental Care
Ascent Dental Care is a fast-growing, Massachusetts-based dental services organization with four practices in the greater Springfield market. Dr. Kevin Coughlin is the founder of Ascent Dental Care. GEDC plans to continue growth in Massachusetts and beyond. It has dental offices in nine states. Nilesh Rajadhyax is GEDC‘s president.
Beacon Oral Specialists Expands into the Midwest with Midland Oral Surgery and Implant Centers Partnership
Beacon Oral Specialists announced that it has entered into a strategic agreement with Midland Oral Surgery and Implant Centers, expanding Beacon’s footprint into the Midwest with this five-surgeon, three-location practice in Chicago. Drs. Carlos G. Pagni, Aaron G. Tucke, V. Bill Hajiharis, Faisal A. Khan and Gilbert T. Guajardo practice the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery in the southwest Chicagoland communities of Frankfurt, Tinley Park, and Oak Lawn. Midland was founded more than 50 years ago. Dawood & Tanner and Alex Jones Dentistry Joins Dentex Group
Dr. Andrew Dawood and Dr. Susan Tanner formed their London, UK practice in 1992 and have grown it to 14 operatories. In order to take it to the next level, they recently partnered with Dentex Health. Alex Jones Dentistry is a group of two private dental practices in South Yorkshire and was founded in 2004. Founded in 2016, Dentex has grown to a community of over 100 practices across the UK. Dentex was formed in 2016 and now have over 138 practices across the UK. The group is headquartered in London. Oliver Snowden is the director of partnerships and acquisitions at Dentex.
Clyde Munro adds 75th practice to group
Scottish dental group Clyde Munro has acquired its 75th practice. Clyde Munro has been buying dental practices in Scotland at a rate of three per month following a £25 million package from Investec secured earlier this year. Following the purchase of Tryst Dental in Stenhousemuir, the Glasgow-headquartered group now has more than 600,000 patients – about one in every nine people in Scotland. Jim Hall is the founder and chief executive with Clyde Munro.
CDF Family Orthodontics has joined Corus Orthodontists
Led by Drs. Kim Christie and Ben Drane, CDF Orthodontics has locations in Wallingford and Chesley, Pennsylvania. Corus Orthodontists was founded in 2019 by a group of 18 orthodontists across North America. Since then, they have grown to become a group of over 50+ practices, and over 870+ team members. Dr. Paul Helpard is the CEO of Corus Orthodontists. Corus is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
