A New Kind of DSO Event Experience

As the DSO and group dentistry industry continues to expand, so does the number of conferences, meetings, and networking events competing for executives’ time. While large conferences remain valuable, many senior leaders are increasingly looking for smaller, more focused environments where they can have meaningful conversations with peers, industry partners, and other decision makers.

Destination DSO is an exclusive, invitation-only experience for a curated group of approximately 15-20 DSO leaders. Designed for the C-suite, it creates a high-trust, distraction-free environment for meaningful dialogue, strategic alignment, and real business outcomes.

Set in world-class destinations, it blends peer-level collaboration, premium experiences, and forward-thinking conversations—far beyond a traditional conference.

The Vision Behind DSO Destination

The concept was created by Gary Salman of Black Talon Security and J.W. Oliver Jr. of SupportDDS. Black Talon Security is a cybersecurity company that serves multiple sectors, including healthcare and dental, focused on protecting critical business data from evolving cyberthreats. SupportDDS provides dental practices and DSOs with tech-enabled remote and virtual team members designed to improve front office efficiency and integrate into operations.

According to Oliver, DSO Destination grew out of a simple observation: some of the best conversations in dentistry rarely happen in crowded convention halls. He and Salman envisioned an environment where a smaller, more carefully selected group of industry leaders could spend meaningful time together away from the distractions that often come with larger conferences. The goal was not simply to create another dental meeting. It was to create a setting where relationships could develop into trusted friendships, strategic partnerships, and long-term business opportunities.

Why Intimacy Matters in the DSO Space

That philosophy reflects a broader shift in how many DSO executives now approach industry events. As the sector matures, leaders are becoming more selective about where they invest their time. For founders, CEOs, chief operating officers, chief development officers, clinical executives, private equity professionals, and key industry partners, the value of an event is often less about the total number of attendees and more about the quality of the room.

DSO Destination was designed to address that need. Its format emphasizes smaller, invitation-only gatherings, direct access to decision makers, high-quality strategic discussions, and relationship-building that feels less transactional than traditional networking. Oliver describes the philosophy simply: relationships are most important before engaging in business.

Relationships Before Business

That concept is especially relevant in the DSO industry, where trust is central to acquisitions, partnerships, technology adoption, cybersecurity planning, recruiting, vendor relationships, and operational strategy. In many cases, the most valuable conversations do not happen during formal presentations. They happen over meals, during small-group discussions, while participating in shared activities, or in the informal moments between scheduled sessions.

A key differentiator of DSO Destination is the way sponsors and industry partners are incorporated into the experience. In a traditional conference, sponsors often operate from booths or designated spaces. At DSO Destination, sponsors participate more like peers. They are part of the meals, discussions, activities, and informal networking. That structure helps reduce the divide between vendor and executive, creating an environment where business conversations can happen in a more authentic way.

Destination-Driven Networking

The venue plays a central role in the DSO Destination model. Rather than selecting standard conference hotels, the event series is built around unique destinations and activities that encourage attendees to interact in a more natural way. Past and planned experiences have included venues and activities such as the SIG SAUER Academy in New Hampshire, a Land Rover experience in Vermont, white water rafting in Jackson Hole, zip lining in Costa Rica, and Porsche driving experiences.

These venues are not selected simply because they are memorable. They are chosen because they create shared experiences. When attendees participate in something together, whether it is an outdoor adventure, a driving experience, or a leadership-focused activity, they have a natural way to connect beyond job titles and business cards.

Past attendees consistently point to the quality of the conversations, the ease of connecting with other leaders, and the value of shared experiences as what sets DSO Destination apart.

Inside the SIG SAUER Academy Event

The recent DSO Destination event at the SIG SAUER Academy in New Hampshire is a strong example of how the model works. For DSO Destination, the venue was more than a backdrop. It helped shape the experience. Attendees were able to participate in professional firearms safety and leadership-oriented activities while also spending time together in a private, focused setting. The shared nature of the experience created an easy point of connection and helped move conversations beyond the usual conference introductions.
