Walmart Health Continues its Expansion Despite the Pandemic

According to the American Dental Association’s Health Policy Institute polling, as of today, close to all dental practices (97%) in the United States are open again. While dental practices have been trying to get production back to pre-COVID levels, Walmart has been quietly expanding its health centers in Georgia and beyond.

Dr. Roshan Parikh (a.k.a. Dr. Ro), a veteran DSO leader and founder, is the Head of Dentistry at Walmart Health which focuses on dental medical integration and increasing access to care, offering customers new ways to save money, while living better –and healthier– lives.

His first practice, with three employees operating in 650 square feet of space, eventually became Chicagoland Smile Group. Dr. Ro grew it into a 20+ network of multi-specialty dental group practices with north of 75 dentists and dental specialists. Chicagoland Smile Group made the Group Dentistry Now (GDN) list of Emerging Dental Groups to Watch in 2018. Dr. Ro sits on GDN’s editorial board and he is a contributing author to GDN.

Walmart Health’s goal is to give Americans at every economic level better access to basic healthcare.  This concept revolutionizes healthcare and access to care and is particularly exciting for the dental industry which traditionally has been relatively isolated from the rest of the medical community. The patient reaps all the benefits from having the full spectrum of their basic healthcare needs under one roof.

Walmart Health is attracting both patients and providers alike. The collaborative aspect with other modalities of healthcare is a magnet for dentists, many of whom have a strong desire to provide a better and healthier life for patients holistically.

Walmart is now taking its proven concept and scaling up to meet the needs of more people.

Loganville, GA
On June 17th, 2020 Walmart Health opened its third location in the state of Georgia in Loganville. Loganville, GA is approximately 29 miles Southwest of Atlanta, GA. The city has a population of over 10,000 people and straddles both Walton and Gwinnett counties.

The Loganville, GA store follows the opening of their Calhoun, GA health center, which opened in early 2020 (read article and view photo gallery – HERE). Previous to that opening, Walmart introduced its first-ever health center, which included a comprehensive dental clinic, in Dallas, GA.

Springdale, AR
On June 24th, 2020,Walmart Health opened its fourth location in the country and its first location outside of Georgia – in Springdale, Arkansas. Located in Northwest Arkansas in the Ozark mountains, Springdale is the fourth-largest city in the state. Bentonville, which is where Walmart’s corporate offices are located, is a quick 25 minute drive north.

The Elm Springs Walmart Health, located at 4870 Elm Springs Road, is adjacent to the Springdale Walmart Supercenter. Much like the Dallas and Calhoun locations, the existing Springdale Walmart Supercenter was remodeled as the adjacent Walmart Health Center was being build.

Dental services will be added to Springdale’s health center’s list of services sometime in July. Springdale’s health center is offering a new prototype and has a smaller footprint than those in Georgia. This new prototype will give Walmart the opportunity to test a different layout and services.

Continued expansion – services and geography
Recently, Walmart had to close several stores in Chicago due to unrest in the city. These stores, which incurred damage, will all reopen. The damaged stores will be doing some remodeling and two of the Supercenter locations will be adding Walmart Health facilities.  Walmart Health will also continue its expansion in Georgia in 2020.

Walmart will also be expanding services offered and is opening an insurance agency that will help seniors find the best Medicare insurance available. They are looking for passionate health insurance professionals to help them build this new business from the ground up. Walmart Insurance Services LLC, will be hiring several Medicare Insurance Agents to begin the first week of August 2020.
